Well if you just got it do a tune up. Tranny fluid, engine oil filter etc, fuel filter, plugs plug wires etc. Then do a compression test.
After all of this i/h/e
BTW you may want to try some chemical cleaners in your ride, because of the age. sea foam or something of the sort.
