Tuning after headwork
I'm getting headwork done on my LS; cams, valves, valvesprings, reatiners, cam gears, port and polish, chipped ECU, and SAFC. I was told it's going to be $500 to have it properly tuned on a dyno. That seems kind of pricey. I'm sure dyno time costs money but $500 is ridiculous. Anyone know where I can get it done cheaper in the San Antonio, Houston, or Austin area? Better yet, anyone in San Antonio want to help teach me how to tune?

Re: Tuning after headwork (LSDelSol)
it shouldnt be that much. most dyno places are about $75-125hr or even a flat rate of $100 to tune your type of setup. some SUPER tuners like Norwood of course would charge a bit more. he's what you call a high end tuner.
It shouldnt be more than 2 hrs to strap on your car and tune it. you'll probably need about 5-10 basic tuning runs to get the feel of where the adjustements should be on the cam gear. Then a few more runs to fine tune the fuel along with the cam setting.
I would tune it on the dyno instead of yourself. The dyno will get you the most power out of your motor. You can see minor changes on the graphs and determine what will be best for you.
Good luck and hope to see some good numbers for you.

Re: Tuning after headwork (exospeedAMcrx)
Thanks...I was thinking though...wouldn't it make more sense just to tune at the track? You can just tune according to your times. Run once, tune your fuel pressure, cam gears, timing, then run again. Keep doing it until you get the best times. Does that sound stupid or make sense?
I will definitely tune on a dyno but there are none in San Antonio (that I know of).
