Default The truth about catbacks

So i have an apexi n1 on my car, its been on for a year and a half. My midpipe is in really really bad condition right now, the whole exhaust is a little rough to be honest. Im contemplating purchasing a new system. Does it really make that much of a difference what brand i go with. In all reality the ebay setup i ran lasted just as long as the apexi, but cost 400 less. Are there REALLY any performance differences. Opinions Please!

i seem to be going through an exhaust like once every year and a half, so im thinking 600 could be better spent. I dont remeber what the ebay did sound like, but im more worried about performance

well i had a 3in ebay exhaust on my ek it wasnt loud but its prolly cause it was turbo but hell it was all good stainless it never rusted at all not even the flanges or bolts they sent!

the muffler is what i expected to be crap but it was 3in thru also .. thats where u gotta watch!

some muffler companies even name brand will have 2.5 in pipe and then the muffler is 2in thru and gives u restriction! i know they did a write up about the greddy rsx catback losing power over stock

No difference in performance versus the eBay because they are also mandrel bent, and assuming same diameter piping.

If you're satisfied with owning cheap crap then by all means purchase a cheap exhaust

on my eg hatch with a JDM b16-A, i just ran a 2.75 diameter straight pipe up to the rear. pretty much noisy. and if it back fires it shoots a fireball. nice

Piping is piping, don't matter who makes it, 2" is 2" and 3" is 3", but I have to agree on the mufflers, you get what you pay for there...

just buy stainless steel piping and mandrel bends, invest in a good muffler and build your own exhaust system or take all the parts to a muffler shop and have em put it together

well i had an ebay setup, then cut the cheap can off and welded a stock sti muffler on it, it had a great sound. Then i took that off and ran open downpipe with my turbo setup. now i rock the apexi n1 full exhaust. i may stick with it for a while. Use the money elsewhere, but im thinking a ws2 being the next muffler system

Yeah I can probably agree on the muffler thing because I'm cheap & bought an eBay ($40 shipped) muffler and it's loud. Doesn't resonate sheet!

Go with stock piping and a high flow cat. I noticed 3x more difference when upgrading the cat. Not so much difference with the piping.

OEM is nice because it actually fits and doesn't draw attention.
