Troubleshooting: Code 43
I've been pulling code 43 ever since I did my swap in May. The thing is, it comes and goes. I can drive 2 miles and it comes on. I can drive 150 miles and it won't come on. I can't say I feel a loss of power because I don't know if I ever had the original power. Helm's says 1) Fuel Pump, 2) Fuel Filter, 3) Fuel Injector for Loss of Power and mentions FPR/injectors for failing emissions (we don't have emissions in Indiana, couldn't tell ya if I was failing or not).
I have extra injectors, it's not like filters are expensive, and worst comes to worst, I can pick up a Walbro pump for $85.
I am wondering if you guys think it is more than likely a fuel related problem or perhaps a faulty connection in the O2 sensor wiring as the Helm's is saying.
I have an extra stock O2 sensor (I think the one that I have now is Bosch, maybe Craig will see this and remember). Not sure if I should try replacing the sensor or not. I have checked the wiring over again and again and haven't been able to find these "loose connections".
I realize this is hard to help me on as I don't know if I have a loss of power, I'm going to assume I do. The car runs fine.
By the way, this is an OBD2 B18B1 converted to OBD1.
I changed the filter at the time of swap, the injectors are unknown, I have my stock d16z6 injectors as well as some b18b1 injectors, the fuel pump (to my knowledge) is the original with 117k miles on it.
There is a hissing coming from the intake manifold and I'm wondering if too much air is getting in near an/the injector(s). But when I used a stethoscope it sounded the same across the board. I was told to spray WD40 around the manifold to see if it sucked it in. Perhaps that's a whole different problem...
Any help is appreciated, thanks a lot.

The other day I was leaving the junkyard and shifted into 2nd. I hit the accelerator and the car just bogged down and felt like it was going to stall out. This happened one more time.
There is also a heavy fuel smell in the cabin when the engine is off and has been sitting that hasn't been present before.

A large vacuum leak can cause code 43. Try spraying brake or carb cleaner all around the intake manifold and hoses, the idle should change when you hit it.

The cause of my leak would be from not having one of the IM bolts in. The hole in the head ended up being stripped and I have yet to get around to re-threading it. I will spray some brake parts cleaner tomorrow...

Shouldn't I have idle surge if I have a vacuum problem as well?

I went to spray for vacuum leaks, started the car, and noticed an immediate smell of fuel and noticed Injector #4 leaking fuel onto the runner. My question is this. Could air leaking in cause an injector to fail/leak?

Nay. That problem is solved. Was an o-ring issue. But code 43 loves me. Sack of ****. It has to be the small leak that I can't find or the O2 sensor. I'm replacing the POS Bosch sensor with an OEM for simplicity. I know this one was working and it doesn't have any converter crap in the wiring. Anybody? Bueller?

I think code 43 is a sort of catch-all code. If the signal for a sensor is completely bogus, the ECU will throw the code for that sensor. Like 1 for O2 sensor, 3 for MAP, or whatever. None of the sensors are OBVIOUSLY bad, all the sensor signals are within a normal range, at least. So your ECU can't point to a particular sensor, but still everything doesn't add up.
Maybe your fuel pressure is wrong. Then the ECU has to fire the injectors more or less to keep the O2 sensor happy. The ECU doesn't know WHY, so it sets code 43. The ECU can tell if an injector's wiring is unplugged, but it can't really tell if it's simply not giving the correct amount of fuel. It only knows that it can't keep the O2 sensor happy. Get it? So there's a whole ton of possibilities for you to check out.
Get a helicoil in there for your vacuum leak. Or at least check it out to convince yourself that it isn't really leaking. Everything else might be a wild-goose chase if you do have a vacuum leak.

A little annoying isn't it? I have a brand new filter. O2 is what I'm hitting next.

i have the same code 43 it saids fuel system supply and this is what my car does
i have a 1995 with a b20b block and a gsr head
my car the first minute that i drive it in the morning when i push the gas pedal somethimes runs and somethings it does not
feel like the fuel is not getting to the engine smodd , and does not run normal the first minute that i drive the car after that the car start running normal
i tought i might be the fuel filter , fuel pump or injectors , any idea what it will be?
i think is the fuel filter but not sure
because if it was the fuel pump my car won't even run right?

Mine was the fuel pump. It was dying. I replaced it with a 255 Walbro and no more CELs and runs fantastic. I don't have the half throttle problem anymore either. Yours sounds exactly like mine. I would definitely say fuel pump, but if you haven't changed the filter for awhile, you may want to do that first since it's much cheaper. If you do get a new pump and get a Walbro, PM "Lightning" for deals. Overnight shipping only $8
