Default Tricking O2?.....

Ok....my friend is going to be boosting his GF's 96 Honda civic EX. We have everything planed out (he is making the manifold, DP, exhaust, charge pipes, and everything else). It will be running the hack (i hate it but this is a budget set up) and maybe later on down the road the MSD BTM unit. But for not we were talking about either making a test pipe, or gutting the stock cat. But then we were thinking since its obd2 its going to throw a CEL. Now i was thinking if we make a test pipe and leave the secondary O2 outside of the exhaust system (leave it hanging in the engine bay or down under the car) it will read cleaner air than the primary so it will think the cat is working, right? Since its a narrow band i wouldn't think that it could tell its perfect air but it will just think its cleaner. Has any one tried this? Does any one think this will work? Please post any thing that will help us with this dilemma. TIA...

-Trent

No, the O2 sensor is designed to read just that, O2 (or oxygen). If you leave it outside, in the air (oxygen) it will most definately throw a code.

If you really want to do this, heres a link to a cheap fix: http://www.mkiv.com/techarticl...ator/

But if its designed to read oxygen and its outside getting alot of it why would it throw a code?

Because it's going to tell the computer that theres an excessive amount of air "in the exhaust" and to richen things up to compensate for it (i.e. CEL and car runs like ***). It's also going to think there is something wrong with the cat with that much extra "air inside the exhaust system".
