Default Transmission Whoas

Ok heres the rundown....
My Ride: 92 Hatch with LS swap (LS motor and LS tranny)

Problem: The car started making this loud clunking, thumping noise. so i replaced the tie rods it was a no go. then i went to check the usual suspect...Axel(driver side). I took off the axel and the intermediate shaft and all looked ok. When i did the swap i put a new axel seal on the trans but it never did seal right so i decided since it was all off id replace it. And low and behold as i ripped off the seal this other piece was all loose and snapped off. Its the piece where the axel slides into. I guess you would call it an inner sleeve. So that puppy is snapped and broken.

Questions: How is this replaced? How hard is the process?

OK, its your differential, you need to replace it or have it rebuilt. you can buy a used GSR or b16 tranny(the better option, shorter gear ratios). You might be able to buy the parts from honda and do it yourself, if you cant I would just buy a used b series tranny, it will be less than a rebuild.

Thanks alot. Do you or does anyone on right now know the process to fix this? My money is a bit tight right now and i cant really afford to make a wrong decision in fixing this tranny or just gettin a new one. I can get stuff from honda at cost and my buddy works at a toyota dealer and he may be able to do some work at his shop. So again i just need to know whats involved in fixing this. Thanks again.

If your buddy has taken apart a 5 speed from say corolla, he should be OK. Remember that every manufacturer is different. You should really have a helms book specific to that motor and tranny. It shouldn't be that bad though. If the damage is only to the differential, you need only to:

Remove the tranny, this means removing the clutch cover plate and unbolting the front right bracket, the rear tranny mount.

Remove the attaching bolts, there are 16 that circle the tranny and hold the two sides together.

Then remove the 32mm square sealing bolt from the end furthest from the clutch(the bolt fits a 1/2 ratchet in it)

You can now remove the clutch housing from the tranny housing.

Remove the mainshaft and countershaft then remove the differential, unbolt the big final drive gear from the diff and replace the diff part with another one either quaife LSD or factory replacement or OBX(if you need to find a cheap one/be warned these have been known to break).

Then reassemble carefully.

Goodluck, its intensive be careful take photos and work slowly. A picture says a thousand words and that will help if you forget something. Not to mention help you make a good writeup afterwards
