Default Transmission Swap

I recently purchased a 1999 Civic Si (came from the muscle car family..1971 Chevy Nova) and I was surprised by the great sound VTEC makes . I've done all the normal upgrades to the Civic...Header, Intake, Ignition...etc. When driving the Civic at freeway speeds 65 - 85 m.p.h. the RPM's are pretty high . Is this okay for the engine?? Is it possible to swap a six speed from an Acura into the Civic?

Unfortunately, there are no bolt-on 6spd's for the B-series engine. As far as rpms on the highway, you shouldn't have any problems. If you are really concerned about it, swap in an integra LS tranny. However, the longer legs will make take-off a bit sluggish.

yeah, our engines are more than happy to cruise at 4/5k rpms, its not like pushrods v8's.
you'll be fine.
you should be happy that you have the s4c tranny...

the b16 tranny is a great tranny. short gears, means you pick up speed quicker. but it does get a little annoying from having the engine rev around 4k. is you want you can get an LS tranny S40. freeway rpms will drop. say from 4k to 2800

Here are a few more questions I've been looking for answers to...

Is the S4c one of the more built / rugged transmissions Honda makes?

What about ECU upgrades from Jet Performance? ....It looks like - other than forced induction - this is the best way to get some more horsepower.

How do you train yourself to stay out of the VTEC???....evertime I drive it's seem like the car was meant to be at 7000 - 8200 RPM's!!!!!!

I would keep the stock tranny. There are no issues. If you're really worried, then you can install the 5th gear from an LS or GSR tranny in order to make 5th gear more bearable.
