Default transmission problem?

I recently bought a 1988 Accord and I am having problems shifting into reverse and 1st gear. It sounds like it is grinding. It is difficult to get the stick out of reverse also. It worked fine when I bought the car three days ago. Everything works fine when I am driving the car, but it only happens when I am at a dead stop. Any experience with problems like this? Thanks

Sounds like it could be your shifter bushings. If you shifter is not lining up properly then its not pulling at the right angle to get the tranny out of gear. Check the bushings at each end of the shifter linkage for excess play.

lemon law i would go talk to whoever you bought it from, make them fix it or make them give you back your money via the lemon law.

edit... i mis read the year as 1998 before... so this prolly isnt a real option
