shifter bushings
my shifter on my 2000 si has a really loose feel to it. when in gear the shifter moves to the left and the right without coming out of gear. would shifter bushings fix this were my shifter has the tight feel? or is something loose that i need to tighten up? i'm about to change my tranny fluid and was wanting to fix this problem while i'm under the car. thanks for the help.

Re: shifter bushings (usdmike)
well before i got my new transmission the shifter was very loose. then after the new tranny got install it felt tight but its slowly getting looser. i was hoping that the bushings was the problem or could it be something else. it goes into gear, but sometimes because its so loose i have to put it in gear slowly. does this make any sense?

Re: shifter bushings (SPOON DC2)
surely someone has had this problem and fixed it. the bushings are cheap but i would hate to put new ones on and that not be the problem.

Re: shifter bushings (CaTiRo)
i have 2 eg's and my friend has an ek and they both do it
i drove a evo and a camaro and they dont... u put those in gear and they stay
soo...im guessing its because of the shift linkage in the civics.
they use the bars instead of the shifter going into the tranny, and it makes sense since its fwd. or wrong wheel drive
and the evo's and the camaro's shifters go straight into the tranny.
so i guess in a nutshell.
shift bars = loose feeling
shifter straight into tranny = tight shifts
but thats jus what i think, im not sure... someone correct me if im wrong

Re: shifter bushings
I'm taking a manual tranny class, i'll find out when I get home I look through the books. But It almost sounds like the shift lockout isn't working.

Re: shifter bushings
I have some notes from my book, check the shift blocking system solenoid located in the transmissions shift linkage.
Check you bushings first.
P.S. I plan to get a certificate to work on manual and auto trannies

Re: shifter bushings (jok)
The shifter is held in place by a rod which is connected to the chassis and tranny by the shfiter bushings. So if they are shot then it will cause sloppy shifting.

i bought my ES shifter bushings from pepboys for $12. if the spring pin (aka bitch pin) has been replaced with bolt, it will cause slop in the shifter. also, if the linkage is not tight around the bottom pivot of the shift lever, slop will also result

Re: shifter bushings (CaTiRo)
You can get bushings for Si's for about $10 from Energy Suspension. I know, because i got some at a local car show...forgot to mention, i dont have an Si, but if you have enough people and swear enough, you can get them to work in a 98 LX... Once you get new bushings it should take some of the slop away, but almost all hondas have that side-to-side ****.
