i have a 95 civic w/ the stock motor. when the car is off it would go into all the gears and when you start it, it doesn't go into gear. what could be the problem?

Yea, sounds like the release bearing isn't doing its job. I recently took a trans off a car with the same problem and the bearing was hanging off the fork and not fully attached, and you cannot release the clutch from the pressure plate.
