Transmission fluid?
What tranny Fluid should I use for my 91 LS Teg and how much do I need. I can't find my owners manual. I dont think the car has had the tranny fluid changed in a long long time cuz I bought it with 105k miles and it needed a lot of work to get it into good working order. Should I feel a difference in tranny after fluid change and what would not changing fluid for a long time due to the trans? (Manual of course).
Sorry for long post. Thanks for help in advance.

most manuals i've seen requires an annual tranny fluid change. it uses the same method as an oil change. although i haven't seen tranny flush fluids before. you drain fluid. fill back up, with some good honda mtl. i've never used the 10w before. get some reaction from them as well. honda service shops use 10w30.

I say if you plan to driving agressively then redline mtl is the way to go. or if you just drive like: Driving Miss. Daisy
then stick to honda mtf. I had the oem honda stuff but it's not so great when you want to rip thru the gears during the cold winter season since it gets to be pretty notchy and doesen't shift as good but the redline mtl cured the problem also overnight.

Thanks, I guess I will go with Honda mft but I still want to know if I should feel a significant difference when I change the fluid. What do you guys mean when you say shifts are notchy? I never had a manual acura b4 so I dont know what a good new tranny should feel like.
Also, why and how does changing fliud improve how smooth the Tanny shifs? What about old fluid makes it work poorly. (I'm looking for a technical answer just for my own knowlege). Thanks
Dirty oil causes the synchros to not synchronize the gears as good which can cause getting into gear to be a bit harder.. Over time the synchros do wear out so just changing your fluid may help but not cure the problem... Honda MTF also has friction additives over normal oil which make the synchros work correctly that's why you should use it over just normal oil.. There are many things that can go wrong tho... A bent "interlock" in the tranny can cause shifting to be a nightmare.. Bent forks can also do the same thing.... Try the tranny oil change and if you still notice it to be harder to get in gear than it should then consider a rebuild... Latez
Thanks, that was a very helpful explination. I'm not so worried about my tranny problem as much as I just want to understand it.
out of 5 for than answer.
