Default tranny questions

i have a 1991 hatch with a b16a vtec, 5th gear at 55 mph runs 3500, i need another tranny that will help with the higher rpm at higher speeds. the car feels as if it needs another gear, so what i want is something that wont run such a high rpm at higher speeds, any suggestions

you can try swapping in an 90-91 LS 5th gear into your tranny. Actually what B16 tranny do you have exactly? S1, J1, Y1, YS1?

You could ask someone with a ls or gsr to trade trannys with you. I would only step down to a GSR however.

If you're happy with the way the other gears are, then why swap the entire tranny?

Seems the logical thing to do would be swap out the 5th/reverse gear set like you were saying. Kinda pricey from the dealer, but definately cheaper than a new tranny.

Another route would be to just swap an ls/gs/rs integra final drive gear in. The end result would definately give you a lower rev/speed ratio in 5th without adversely affecting the other gears. Although you would notice a difference in all gears with this setup.... so I guess it kinda just depends on what you want.
