Default Tranny question

I have an S1 tranny in b16a swapped CRX. It is going bad and grinding 3rd etc. Someone on honda tech is offering me a good deal on 97 gsr transmission internals, all the gears etc. Can i use my S1 casing and the aftermarket clutch i had in the S1 (spec stage 3) and just swap in the GSR gears and have them bolt right up with no problem? How hard is this type of conversion? If i took it to someone to have it done, will i be looking at the price of a clutch install basically, or is there way more to this gear swap then that??

oh yea, my tranny is cable, and the gsr is obviously hydro, will that complicate things at all, if this is a really complicated, non bolt-in process i dont even want to do it, so please enlighten my ignorant ***.

Thanks
Tyler

well its most likely your syncro gears that are going bad. i would not buy gsr gears since they are much longer it would hurt acceleration. just open it up and find out whats wrong and replace it. then get a nice light flywheel to further help from grinding gears in the future.

well, actually, i wouldnt mind a little loss in quickness because i do alot of highway driving, and it would be nice to cruise at 70 and be at 3000 instead of 4800 rpms, also it would save me gas money. Basically i still just want to know if this swap would be easy and would work, because i have gotten estimates on just the parts to do a rebuild on my trans, and it was more then the $250 that this dude is selling the GSR tranny internals for, so with that in mind, is this an easy/probable swap?? And do the gsr gears even fit my s1 tranny, and will the cable vs hydro difference effect anything such as the clutch and flywheel that i will have to use, etc??

So that is definately true, the gsr tranny internals wont work with the casing from an S1 tranny, more input please, but if they simply wont fit, then just let me know, at least explain why it wont work though.

Bump, the guy has a friend who is selling the housing for a gsr tranny, so if i can get that, can i use my clutch and flywheel from my S1, or would i need a whole new clutch and flywheel also???

I son;t think they will interchange, I comparing a b16 cable tranny to a gsr a while ago and the input shafts are different and the case is different in size as well. I've not yet opened them up but this is just going by the case and input shaft.

JDM cases = small shaft
90-91 USDM = small shaft

92-93 GSR = large shaft
