Default TRANNY PROBLEMS!!!!

I have a 1988 Honda Accord DX with 180,000 miles on it. I all of a sudden don't have 5th gear. When I put it in 5th and give it gas it winds out like neutral. Like the gear isn't even there. Anyone know of any problems with this model transmission or why the gear might be stripped out. Thanks a lot

Sean

Fluid level and quality of the tranny fluid plays a part here..

I've seen the 5th gear wasted by replacing the tranny fluid with a lighter weight hydraulic fluid, usually gear oil.... Both times was the fault of a "quick" lube shop using bad taste and just using the wrong quality of tranny fluid during replacement..

Why does it on affect the 5th gear only?? beats me, some say that it is the lighter weight fluid not being able to reach and stick to the 5th gear assy..some say its a "load" and speed thing..
