Tranny Problems
I have a 93 civic with a jdm b16 swap. i was driving today, and it was extremely hard to shift. i had to push/pull it in to gear. and it stutters sometimes in gear as well. then, when i was a block from home, it wouldn't go into gear at all. i had to coast for a while, then pull real hard into 4th. any ideas what the problem is? clutch? i was pumping the clutch in the driveway when i finally got home, and it feels quite soft. there's plenty of fluid. could it be a pressure plate problem? tranny is shot? it does grind quite often in 3rd and 4th. i got the motor from hondamotors about 2 weeks ago. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Regarding the check engine, it comes on after a while of driving, maybe at a certain temp... we checked the code - 23 - which reads a knock sensor. would old gas throw it? my car has been sitting since may until a week ago when we swapped it. what else would throw that code???

Sounds like what I am running into.
From what I have read its a bad release bearing. Does your clutch make a "clank" type sound when you are in nuteral and let it out?
From what I gather, the bad bearing is causing the clutch to not be fully disengaged which is why it studders and its hard to get into gear.

sort of, but i've kind of had this problem before with a d-series motor. ended up being the main shaft in the tranny, but that's not what mine is like this time. it just shifts REALLY hard, and sometimes doesn't want to go into gear at all. but the release bearing definitely sounds like it could be a problem. i think i'm gonna order an exedy in a minute... thanks. anyways, if anyone else maybe thinks it's something else, let me know!

any ideas on the check engine light?
the actual MOTOR pulled it out rocking back and forth real bad... check the knock sensor connection... if everything seems OK, then try replacing it... u might wanna put the ignition timing back to normal, too, if advanced too much...
