Default tranny problems

today i was driving when i started to notice the gears grind when i shift from 2nd to 3rd. i figured out that it only happens at 5000 rpm and above. also i can downshift from 4th to 3rd without any problems. this is a B16 from honda motors online that was just installed. i just finished breaking in the clutch so i havent been driving/shifting hard lately. is it possible to have bad synchro's this early? (30-40k miles). i thought that usually happened later in the game. i have an exedy clutch and after the swap it took awhile to adjust the clutch cable. is it possible that the clutch is my problem instead, where its maybe not releasing? i did a search on this topic but nothing was specified about milage so i wasnt sure. anyways, i'd appreciate advice on this topic.

thankyou!!!

someone must have an opinion on this. if you do, i would really appreciate hearing it. i figured out today also that i can shift 2-3 at high rpm ONLY if i double clutch. sounds like a bad synchro but i would really like to hear a confirmation.

THANKYOU!

Sounds like you are on the right track there. It seems odd that a syncro could go out that soon but who knows how the previous driver abused that motor. Maybe its under waranty with hondamotorsonline?

Make sure you have the proper amount of slack in the clutch cable.

It could just be a bad tranny. You know the motor was from Japan. Imagine what a tranny goes thru if it lived in Tokyo.

What mounts and shift linkage?

I recently installed a b16 into my CRX with Hasport mounts and linkage and I have the same identical symptoms. I had the tranny apart to install the Quaife and inspected the syncrhos. They didn't look perfect but no where close to the worn picture in the helms. I'm suspect of the shift linkage. It appears to me the engagement points are rotated to far toward the passenger side. You can actually hit the shifter on the shift boot retainer when shifting into fifth. On the second to third shift; 1: it's much farther left than I'm used to which causes a problem when not thinking about it and 2: it's almost like i have to push forward and slightly left when engaging third. This motion is very conterproductive to a quick second to third shift. I haven't called Hasport yet as I'm still evaluating it.

My GSR tranny went bad after about 500 miles from HondaMotorsOnline. Same problem as you, 2nd to 3rd shift would grind above 4400 RPM. Who knows how many miles and how the last person drove it.
