Default tranny issue automatic (subaru)

i know someone with a 1990 subaru gl.

the problem, which is the first time ive heard or seen of, is with the tranny:

the tranny no matter in which gear when the car is cold will not drive, it acts as if its in neutral.
the only way the car will drive is to let it heat up and then suddenly you feel the car jerk and start to go.

any ideas?

Sounds like you need to change the filter and fluid or more then likely have it rebuilt.
