kinda OT but I'm having a problem with my tranny(m2b4, JDM h22a LSD tranny).

I can't get the snap ring to fully seat onto the countershaft bearing. I've turned it upside and dropped it a few times, no go. I've gotten it to a point where both sides are in but the gap is about .3xx". Helms is asking for .245" max. I've taken this thing apart about 4 times now and quadruple checked everything.

should I run it the way it is?

I think I may have responded to you already. Atleast the problem sounds familiar.

But more than likely the clip went bad. I can't imagine you doing it wrong 4 times. Go ahead and replace the clip and get moving on your merry way.

If the snap ring is good check the housing for any dirt or other stuff that's causing the bearing not to fall into place.

yup, I replaced it with another snap ring from another case. made sure it wasn't bent. same problem. thing is now, I'm having the same exact problem as the original post. it spins freely when the case isn't on, but right when I start to tq down the bolts, the input shaft starts to seize up.

so basically the fix is to lube up the bearing on the mainshaft on the bellhousing side?

now I'm stuck with 2 problems...HELP!!

actually I did. here's the situation. I have 2 trannys. 1 h23a1 tranny and 1 JDM h22a LSD tranny. h23a1 tranny had a bad 3rd gear, h22a tranny had a bad 2nd gear. I took the 1-2 syncro assembly off the h23a1 countershaft and replaced the 1-2 syncro assembly of the h22a. triple checked to make sure everything went back on correctly. now, I'm stuck where I am now.

What are you using to spread the retaining clip?
When the casings are brought together the countershaft bearing should come up against the clip. Take a pair of retaining clip pliers(have external serrations for grip) and spread the clip inside the casing groove. The countershaft should slid up. The clip will be halfway to the groove. Turn the tranny over and give'r a light bump. The countershaft should fall into place.
That's the first move.
What I dealt with was bind of the bearing on the main. If the clip is seated properly and you still have bind here is what I did.
I removed the end bearing and lubed it with MTF. I then placed it into the casing up against the shim. I put the casings together and voila! I then took the casings apart knowing that the end bearing was on the shaft correctly. Hondabonded the ish and put it back together.

Even if the syncros fall into place dosen't mean that they are put the right way. I asked this before (check and see if you have any play with any of the gears specially with 3rd) none of da gears should move or have any play in them.

I'm using a lock ring plier similar to this to put on the snap ring:

I get the snap ring to slide halfway to the groove and then I turn it upside down. then nothing. I drop it a few times and still nothing. so I went ahead and stuck a pry bar inside the tranny and pulled up the countershaft. I got it to a point where the ends of the snap ring are into the groove but I'm not sure if the rest of the snap ring is fully seated. I hit the countershaft bearing with a brass punch and it didn't move so I guess it's seated enough.

now I'm stuck at where you're at. when I tqed the casing down, I tried to spin the main shaft(input shaft) and it is freakin hard to turn. something isn't right. so did you take off and lube the bearing that mates to the casing or the other bearing that's on the bottom of the main shaft on the bellhousing side??

I'm 99.9% sure the syncro assembly is on correctly. I checked it over about 4 times. I can pull the case off again and recheck everything again.

thanks for all the help guys. I finally figured it out. the mainshaft, I put one of the syncro hubs upside down. I was going off the m2s4 diagram when I was supposed to go off the m2f4 diagram. once I got it together correctly, everything was butter. I soaked all the gears/bearings in oil, put it all together, snap ring on the countershaft clicked right in the groove with ease, and the mainshaft is spinning with ease now. thanks again guys!
