I don't know if this is a common problem for many of you, but among my friends it is. The tranny on my car grinds all the time on 3rd, sometimes on 4th and 5th gear. Probably from mishifting too much. I have asked around and ppl says it's the syncro. Everobody says to might as well replace the whole tranny instead of the syncro because the costs are about the same. Anyways, I'm on a limited budget, is there any other ways to fix this problem besides changing the whole tranny or syncro?

If you haven't already tried changing your MTF, its worth a shot. Some people have had sucess with this, however according to your description, it sounds like that tranny is near shot.

You could try flushing the tranny and filling it with some Honda MTF or Redline MTF.

If he's got a short shifter, tell him to ditch it. They are a lot more aggresive on syncros.

 

Shift slower and it won't grind. Match engine speed with tranny speed and it won't grind.
