I bet you're talking about an Integra... Manual tranny?
My '95 owners manual says to use 10w-30 engine oil. A year or 2 later Honda started selling their 'genuine' MTF which is compatible with their older trannys which called for 10w-30. It worked a little better than engine oil.

It just felt slightly smoother shifting. The difference was pretty small, so it may have even been my imagination.
You can smell the EP additive which isn't present in engine oil. So even if there's no difference in shifting, I suppose there might be an advantage in tranny lifespan.
