I need some help with my broken transmission. I was racing and hit third gear and I think I broke the axel. I hit 3rd gear and I heard a loud thump and breaking metal. The car will shift through the gears while at idle. Do you guys think this is the axel?? I was having some syncro issues which may have led to this problem. I am not sure what is going on. Any info is greatly appericated. Also I am looking at a gear speed Stage 2 tranny with an LSD. Any thoughts on this? Know anyone runnning this set up? Please let me know! Thanks!

setup details please. engine, power level, etc.

 

Car is a 92 Hatch B16 with 365 whp. Runs 15psi on street with BFG Drag Radials, supertech head with 9k redline. What more would you like? The car does run will not move.

 

Does the speedo move? If you can put it in gear and rev it and the see if the speedo moves, you could have a broken axle, could also have broke the pinions/side gears in the diff, causing the side gears to freewheel because the pinions can no longer hold them as the diff turns.

If your speedo does work, check to see if there is part of an axle turning on you with it in gear, if no part of the axles are spinning, you have internal damage to the diff.

It should be making some kind of noise that will make finding the problem a bit easier.
