would a 97 gsr hydro tranny with a 99 si 5th gear make a difference?
because a guy is trying to sell me a gsr tranny but he swap out the 5th gear from a b16 tran because the gsr 5th gear keep grinding and popin out.

could you swap out the 5th gear like that? i have no clue on tranny so please share what your opinion and experience.

Sounds kind of crappy to me unless you are getting a killer deal. The B16a 5th gears are shorter than the GSR gears and will top out at a lower rpm and will be rev'n higher at a cruising rpm in 5th.

 

that what i was thinking but i wasnt sure myself about having the 5th from a b16. thanks for clearing that up for me. how about putting a ls 5th would that work?
LS 5th gear with the GSR 1,2,3,4 gears.

Yes, but I would rather have a b16a tranny with LS 5th gears.

 

5th would be interchangable, but if they were that low buck to use B16 5th (the rest would be JUNK!)

While the swap is possible, I question how good the tranny person who did the work is.
