Default Trailor Hitch on an EG Hatch

In the next few months or so, I'm planning on moving back to Cali instead of staying in Georgia. I love my car and all my damn possessions to want to sell them or get rid of them for that matter. First off I don't want to spend $1000 and up to rent a UHAUL and a car trailor. RIDICULOUS. I have no idea what specs there are to hitch a trailor for a civic hatchback (1993) even if its possible, like weight distrubition, and if it will mess up my car. The mini trailors are 4'x8' with probably my bedroom set and lots of misc. crap. Any info would help.

thanks in advance..

U-haul lists a 2000# hitch for an EG.I've never pulled a trailer with my hatch but I did pull a motorcycle trailer with my old Sunbird (2.0l/FWD/5 speed).Trailer was maybe 400#s and two bikes were under 500#s.It hauled it fine.If you load the trailer right you should not have any problem.Your going to loose about ten mpg though. Check with a moving company. Some times its pretty cheap to ship a small amount of stuff to cali.By the time you get the hitch, trailer and extra gas your looking at $500 to $800.

I'm totally confused with those numbers you posted..
but I was looking at quotes on UHAUL and the trailor is like $100 for 8 days and 2200 miles.. so I'd be looking at extra money for gas which could be around $400 for the whole trip with the trailor..

... do I have to buy a hitch? or does UHAUL supply one? I've seen them around for $100 or so.. so maybe your estimate is correct, looking at 600 or so..

or i could sell everything..

Uhaul hitch will be around $120 plus install.JC Whitney lists on for $110 and you install it.Rent a trailer for $100 or buy a used one for two or three hundred. The rest would be gas cost...

I would like to know this also.. I need to fit a towbar on my eg hatch but I cant use the factory tow hook mounts for it since I have traction bars on it.. Any ideas for both of us?
