OK.. somebody help out the poor noob here... My tps is screwed ... i've used carb cleaner on my TB , and it's a b16a2 put into a 92-95 civic coupe either one of these i know could have damaged the sensor .. i've currently got the plug off and the idle screw all the way in so it only idles at 1000 or so.. will this cause me any problems such as loss of power or damage to my engine ? I can plug it in and the idle "hunts" from 500-1000... constantly and that just drives me ****** nuts ... i know it's working on some level though cuz the CEL light goes off when i plug it in ... any suggestions or help on this guys.... thanks..

Here's my theory...
With the TPS unplugged, the ECU doesn't try to control the idle. That's why the hunting stops.

1000 rpm is high for a warm idle with the air bypass screw all the way in, so I suspect a vacuum leak, faulty IACV or FIV. Check those areas out first. You could also have a mis-adjusted TPS, but check the easy stuff first.

As for damage to the engine... not really, but the ECU needs the TPS output to determine fuel cut during decell conditions and a few other operating parameters.

 

Get a voltmeter and check the voltage readings. It should be at .5V closed and 4.5V at in the full open position. This is how it is at least for an Integra, I assume yours is no different.
