Default Torqueing without spinning crank

I am going to replace the flywheel on my motor along with the crank pulley. I would like to know how to pin the engine from turning over while torqueing the flywheel bolts and crank pulley bolts to spec. I don't want to use the flywheel teeth, because I don't want to damage them.

Thanks

they sell a tool to lock the crank pulley or put the car in gear and have someone apply the brakes(I get my wife to do it) while you tq. the bolts

With the transmission out of the car??

You won't damage the flywheel teeth, they are extremely hard to stand up to the beating of the starter every time you crank it. I spose you could get a breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt, or if you're a redneck, stuff a rope in a cylinder.

i dono if this will help but here it goes. if you have a welder you can take a garbage fly wheel cut a section off and make it so that you can bolt it to the block where your tranny normally bolts to it. there are probably better ways this is just what i have used before

the teeth on flywheels are serious ... and your only applying 76 lbs of torque compared to what the starter produces... if your flywheel teeth break or warp from a screwdriver or flatbar then your flywheel is weak

yeah the tranny is going to be off the motor for the flywheel but when your done with the flywheel and the tranny is back up then put the tranny in gear and proceed with pulling the crankpulley off or just get the key.. which is much better
