Default Timing Questions (newbie needs help)

Hi, im a new user on these forums and was just coming here to get some info about doing some self repair on my car. I own a 1997 Honda Civic Ex. Current mods are SS, AEM CAI, and a custom straight pipe with Tanabe Exhaust. So driving on the free way one day, i was passing people up in 3rd gear approaching 80ish when i shifted into 4th and proceeded to lose power, and i couldnt maintain the 80, i see my CEL flash and i drive home. I took my car into a shop, and they pull 5 different cells, most of which have to do with miss fires, and one with my 02 sensor, im catless mind you. So they mention that i have also had a broken rear motor mount, and tranny mount(i knew about this). so now that they replaced my coil pack, wires, plugs, theres no more misfires and id figure that would fix the problem(also replaced mounts). No dice, The car just seems to suck in massive amounts of air, but the car has no pull at WOT, and im killing gas. The mechanic mentioned something about my timing belt being stretched and he had to retard the timing to maintain the driveability of the car. Im thinking that im just flooding the engine cause im wasting alot of gas, and my CAI is extremely loud. I put the stock intake on, and checked my manifold no blockage. Im a poor college student, and after spending the amount i had to, to replace mounts and everything else, im just wondering how hard it is to replace the timing belt with a whole timing kit. idler pully, pulley tensioners, and what not. Is there any place online that could help with installation. Or do the forum goers have any other diagnosis of the problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

Check the timing belt, it's a possibility that it jumped a tooth. If it checks out OK, then proceed to give her a compression test.
