timing mark on block.where? any pics?
i saw a diagram in the helms manual that indicates that theres a timing indicator on the block for the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley. the problem is, what does it really looked like? i don't see any mark on the block. i just saw the timing marks on the pully but can't locate the indicator on the block. anybody got a pic of it? thanks.
If you remove the pulley and the lower timing cover, you'll see a very distinct arrow etched into surface of the oil pump right next to the crank, at about 11 o'clock. You can't miss it. When #1 is at TDC, the arrow will line up with the hash mark on the crank.
I assume this is on a B motor. If you are talking about the timing marks to adjust ignition timing they are located on the lower timing belt cover. If you were to look at the crank pulley from the driverside looking at the crank bolt the marks are at the 10-11 o clock marks on the cover. Its a small black narrow bump on the belt cover.
thanks for the pic. so that bump on the timing cover is actually the timing mark use to reference the timing mark on the pulley. i thought it was like a small plate with graduated markings. thanks again.
btw, yup it's for a b16 motor.

The etching on the timing belt drive gear is already lined up to TDC and the mark on the oil pump in this picture.
