timing light question
ok so i have a 92 honda prelude si, and want to set the timing right. i have looked on youtube and seen how they hook up the trigger gun and it flashes but how is it that you know where to set the disb.
The crank pulley is marked at TDC(white), stock timing(red), and +/- 2 degrees(brown marks on either side of the red mark). If your timing light is non-adjustable, then you rotate the distributer until the red mark on the crank pulley lines up with the pointer on your lower timing cover. There are also adjustable timing lights that I have little experience with, but you usually dial in your desired timing and then the light will compensate for that setting and you'd line the white TDC mark up with the mark on your lower timing cover. I believe some of the digital timing lights will also give you a direct reading on the light itself.
Hold onto the cap or the body of the distributor but not onto the wires and you should be fine. It won't kill you or make you sterile if you get shocked although it is not pleasant.
LOL, lots of times, no biggie, it is unlikely you will get a shock even if you hang on the the spark plug leads themselves, unless you have a bad spark plug or an unplugged spark plug lead.
As mentioned a shock from a spark plug lead is not going to do much more then make you jump and swear, high voltage/low amperage, and it's amps that kill
Yes a shock from your cars ign. system is not pleasant, but it is nothing to worry about. 94

If youre that worried about it, you can tap it with a rubber mallet or something similar.
Volts are for thrills, amperage kills.
A shock from the stock ignition isn't that bad, MSD Digital with a HVC coil knocked me on my *** though, lol
