Default timing belt tension question

how tight is too tight when my engine is hot, its kinda like a guitar e string sounding on both sides at TDC. there is minimal deflection between the gears about .25" when hot and about .5" when cold. I can hear an audible whine when I drive since I have the cover open. just getting some input here.

any thoughts?

I have heard that that "supercharger whine" is due to the belt being a little too tight. It is also amplified if the timing cover is not replaced.
