Default Timing belt replace or keep it...

This is on a JDM b16a, I'm changing the water pump and was wondering if I should change the timing belt as well. The belt you see came with the motor and I think it looks like its in good condition. I already have a new belt to go in, just wanted a second opinion.

thanks.

Think of it this way, $50 to be sure, free to be unsure. Besides you already have the belt, I'd change it.

With these JDM motors, you don't know what the person who had it before did to that motor - for all you know, they could have raped the **** of out it! I would agree with the post above, you already have the timing belt, replace that bitch for added security. Wouldn't you just kick your self silly if that ****** broke?

I can't tell from the pictures. Middle shot looks good, but that's the outside of the belt - they don't usually fail there. Top shot doesn't have enough magnification for me to see any hairline cracks at the teeth. Bottom shot is too dark to see detail. Either way, you have to examine for hairline cracks all the way around the belt.

Since you already have a new belt, WHY NOT?? If you don't use it now, your new belt will rot just from age & ozone anyway.

belts usually look pretty good up until the time they break. don't risk it. just change it.
