timing belt question
yea cuz right now when i shoot the crank pulley with the timing light, it looks like its running extremely advanced. but it feels like its running retarded because it bogs down a lot and dies on me sometimes, like its running rich.
first off make sure your marks all line up the crank pulley and then with the cams. After that if everythign lines up then you shuold be good to adjust the timing on the distrib right now you can damage thigns if you are not careful
ok so i got the everything lined up now, but i cant get the timing past like 9 degrees. distributors advanced all the way. when i drive the car, if i hit the gas kinda hard, the car will idle very rough or just die out. if i turn it off, restart it, and just push the gas gradually it drives ok. and in the high rpms, it bogs down if i give it too much gas. i dont see why i cant pull more timing out of it.
What kind of car? Maybe something with a strange procedure for checking timing?
Before checking timing, did you get the engine warmed up & jumper the SCS connector?
Are you possibly using a timing light with an advance dial, then ALSO trying to adjust to the 16btdc marks?
Last (not very likely)... Is it possible the crank pulley is messed up? Take it off (easy for me to say, huh?) Check the mark on the timing belt sprocket against the mark on the oil pump. Or just stick something in a sparkplug hole to verify that it's really TDC...
