Timing belt jumping, Cam cap Binding.
OK, I'm going to post this up just to help anyone that is having the same issue that I'm having with their timing belt jumping teeth. I have a GSR so the car needed a major tune up so i bought a built b16 head, looked perfect. First issue i had when i was installing the cams (type r) i was torquing down the cam caps to O.E.M specs which is 20 ft Lbs on the 12mm bolts. i notice that the exhaust cam was very difficult to rotate almost like stuck, i used 2 torque wrenches just to make sure they where calibrated. I called a couple of Honda friends to see if anyone have heard of this, but they said no. They recommended to make it 15 ft lbs instead of 20 ft lbs. I went with 15 ft lbs felt better, making the story short. after everything was set and done, i test drove the car for about 10 miles. I hit the throttle a little just to hear the Vtec. FML! that's when i heard a noise on the engine and car shut off.
pulled over popped the hood, cams gears where not aligned so the belt was way off. So had the car towed to my house and started checking everything, i didn't notice anything bad everything looked fine. Set the timing belt, turned on the car no Bent valve noise so i ran a compression test=
cylinder 1= 225 psi
cylinder 2= 210 psi, is still within psi tolerance from the others so is good.
cylinder 3= 225 psi
cylinder 4= 225 psi
So it seemed fine, My friend and I just figure we messed up and left the belt loose. i I drove the car for a week like if i had to brake it in. Then the other day getting out of work not even at 4K RPM's same **** happened. that's when i was like there is something else going on, I'm in the process of removing the head getting it line honed seems like the Cam Caps is the issue. Here is some pics just to see how the cams looked after removal also the right way they should be installed arrows pointing to the cam gears.
