Default Timing Belt Issues

Ok, here is my problem! I changed my water pump that was on my B20Z2 with a 99 GSR pump. I also bought a GSR timing belt. I can't seam to get the timing belt to tighten up. I have an all motor non-vetc setup. Should I have used the same B20 belt? This is what I think the problem is however, I would like to see what someone else has to say.

Why didnt you use b20 parts in the first place? Maybe the timing belt is shorter on the b20? are you is the tensioner pulley already maxed out?

I wanted a little better water pump since the original one was no good. That's why I bought a GSR one. I was also told to go with the same type of timing belt as well.

The gsr water pump isn't "better" than a b20 or ls pump.It has more teeth so that the pump turns slower at high rpm.Not necessarily the best thing on a lower reving non-vtec engine. The gsr belt should be the right one for your setup.

Glenn</TD></TR></TABLE>Well, that's something I didn't know if that's a true statement. Not that I am saying it's not, it's just that I never heard that before. So, will this pump cause a problem?

UPDATE: After missing around with it a little and using a coat hanger to help pull the tensioner up I got it to tighten really good. Drove it around for about thirty min. and checked it, still the same as when I tighten it. So I guess that spring must be worn.
