timing belt on my b20vtec.. help..

Default timing belt on my b20vtec.. help..

hi.. im trying to finish up my b20vtec i recently built and threw in my 94' del sol.
the problem is. the timing belt is a little lower on the b20 and now that it has the vtec head, i cant get it over.. sooo.. i tried loosening the belt tensioner on the side.. but its being a basterd and its slipping and im having a hard time getting it off.. if youve ever had this type of problem before pleas egive input,, im so close to finishing up but this is holding me back.. what did you do to fix the problem??

Are you using the same kind of timin belt as the water pump? If not then thats your problem. The GSR/TypeR water pumps have more teeth then the LS water pumps, so it would throw your timing off if your using a LS timing belt with a gsr water pump.

Exactly! What timing belt are you using with which water pump? I.E. If you are using the B20/B18B-A water pump then you must use the proper timing belt for those motors, if you are using the B18C/B16A water pump then you need the timing belt for those motors. You can't interchange them.

im using the b20b water pump and belt.. i should change to gsr timing belt?

ditto, i got a b20 i used gsr water pump with gsr belt fit in good no problem

but what about the tensioner bolt.?? will i have to mess with it?

Not trying to offend you but have you ever done a timing belt before? Judgeing by your last post I'm not sure you have?

I have Ls/Vtec if I'm using Ls w/p and Ls T/b It wont mess with the vtec cam gears? The tooth count is what I mean. I you have to use the same w/p as the t/b how come it wont effect the cam gears teeth? Just check the set up I should stick with.
