Default Timing Belt Help

I am changing the timing belt for my B20B. I went and bought a 97 CRV timing belt kit from car quest. The engine is out of the car, and on my stand.

I did everything in the right sequence turn the crank shaft until the camgears lines and arrows are all properly aligned. I than took the belt off, change the water pump, and now I am stuck with re installing my new belt. I aligned the crankshaft line to the arrow, and installed the belt in the right sequence. When I got to the last two cam gears, it pulled the right cam gear off the alignment I had it at.

When I pull it back, the valve springs keep making it pop down lower than what I want it at. Every time I pull it back to alignment it just goes back lower. I got it as close as I could, but it is so friggen hard to get it around the last cam gear.

I just called it a day this is what I left it at manage to get this belt on just can get everything aligned properly

if you advance(clockwise) the intake cam, the marks should be close

Do the lines have to be like bang on the mark? And I keep trying to go Clock wise on that one but I think the valve springs bring it back down under the line a bit. What happens if there off a bit?

if not right on, it'll be very close.

if you turn the intake cam a bit until the exhaust cam is on the timing belt, it should be close assuming the crank is at tdc.

i mean its not that hard to figure out, sorry to be a dick but all the marks need to be closer than what u have now

happened to me recently after assembling the cyl. head with new supertech valve springs. it's the first time i've encountered this ever. been fixing valve trains since and i was like WTF!

worst, both cam gears are pointed a tooth or two counter clock wise than aligned.

what i did, loosen all the valve tappets then slowly hand tight them back in. stop when you feel each valve starts to move down a bit or as you feel the adjusters touch the valve stem tip with a slight tightness as you rotate them tappet adjusters.

it put a grin in my face afterward

of course you'll need to re adjust the valve tappets once you're done with the t-belt installation.

if you are using oem cams, get something to fit in the holes in the cam cap closest to the gears to lock the cams in place. (preferably dowels)

Sweet, that is a good idea. I should of thought of that. I basically had to shove a wrench into the flywheel plate to stop it from spinning to get the crankshaft bolt lose. I will give this a shot its just the one cam gear that is giving me hard time to align after pulling the belt onto it. This should fix my problem thanks.

^ This.. Thats why the holes are there in the first place. I usually use a punch. If you do this, Both cams will be set for TDC and the lines on the gears should meet at the center with the arrows pointing up.
