TIG or MIG weld's???
Is there really that much of a difference in the welds?? Does it help with strength to go with TIG??? Why is it 100 bucks more to have TIG welding on a comptech header??
TIG welding uses aluminum, I don't know about the MIG but, because the NSX is aluminum and need TIG welding to be repaired you will see a lot of them totaled from fender-benders.......
I talked to SMSP about this this past weekend. but I can't remember which is TIG and which is MIG. I have the TIG welded Comptech. Dave said TIG takes longer to do and is therefore more expensive, but the strengths are pretty close. I'll have him comment on this....
TIG is GTAW:Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and MIG is GMAW: Gas Metal Arc Welding. Mig is the same as wire feed. It's easy to do and quick, and provides a strong weld when done properly, as in not just a globbed weld bead. TIG is much harder to do properly you control the heat with a foot pedal, work the torch with one hand and then feed wire via your other hand. It's a much cleaner process and therefore the weld is stronger and more durable over the long run especially in high temp applications.
