ticking tappets
Hi all Just wondering if any one else has noisy tappert on a 2000 honda civic with over 257,000 miles on it?Got a little worse the other day when it was -23 degress below 0 here in Minnesota and - 55 degrees below with wind chill factor, but that good old honda got me right to work that morning and back home again. at night

Are you sure it was lifter noise or was it piston slap? Given the mileage, you probably have a bit of both.
If you are uncertain of the valve lash check it the next time you have you valve cover off.
Piston slap is more common on extremely cold engines, and tends to dissipate as the engine heats up.

Hi slowcivic2k
Yes it could be piston slap, it sounds more like lifters to me . Would piston slap come more from the bottom of the engine? This sound like from the top of the engine more. Might have to have my mechanic take a look at it some day soon here. The temperture warmed up now so don't notice it as much now.
