ticking/knocking noise from a serviced head
I have a co-worker who took his car to get a new timing belt, water pump, and a good tuneup for a 90K mile motor. The shop he took it to bent several valves while putting the timing belt back on getting the tension back on the belt. They took care of the situation by getting the head looked at with new valves and seals. Only 7 of the valves were messed up and the head checked out okay after the service.
The motor had a ticking noise from the head area when he picked up his car and he had it checked out by a stealership for a second opinion. The stealership had the car for two days and did several tests to it and couldn't find anything wrong with the motor except "It's supposed to make noises like that when they are high mileage". The car never made any noise like this prior to the 90K mile tuneup.
The noise is getting noticeably louder and is more like metal knocking instead of a small tick noise from normal valve train wear. He is filling up his coolant reservoir everyday and it drains everyday without any noticeable coolant leaking anywhere on the block or radiator area. The shop did to a pressure check and didn’t see a leak.
I think the valve seal and/or valve stem shaft is messed up. I need to get behind him when he floors it to see what color the exhaust is so I can’t tell you yet what it looks like.
Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

Not that I noticed, but I didn't really look since I heard the noise after it had not been running for several hours
I learned that too.
Both the shop that did the tune up plus the dealership.
