ticking after valve adjustment
hello, last night i did a valve adjustment on my cusins 93 ls, it has 140k on it and was ticking so we assumed that is the valves. but after the adjustment it sounds the same, still ticking. i dont have a helms for a b18a, but i do for a b18b, and i used those specs, and i set em at the tightest, 8 on intake and 16 on exhaust. are the specs for a 93 motor and 95 the same? or do they need diffrant clearances? thanks

Did you double-check your tolerances after tightening down the lock nuts?
Another possibility is that you're hearing injector tick, not lifter tick.

A common problem with ticking after a valve adjustment is exactly what IN VTEC says: ALWAYS check the clearances after you tighten the locknut but generally valves won't tick if they are too tight. You car will just run like crap.
Your noise is probably the injectors firing. Either spray some 2+2 into the throttle body to clean it out, add some injector cleaner to your gas tank, or remove the injectors and send them out to be cleaned.

hello, yes i tripple checked the clearances after the nuts were tightend. i also rechecked them after a days of driving. i measured them cold. so about the injector clicking. is it a rapid sound? it sounds just like the valves needing adjusting? also whats 2+2? thanks
Injector ticking is a rapid sound, and the frequency of the sound will increase with revs (i.e. cylinder firing). 2+2 is good quality Carb Cleaner/Gum Cutter.

I'm familar with the old non-vtec motor you are working on. I found that most manuals dont have the right specs for valve adjustment for it.
I cant make out what you meant by "8" and "16". Always use units

rocker arm-to-camshaft Clearance (Valve clearance) for the B18A1 is...
Intake 0.08 - 0.012mm (or .003-.005 inch)
Exhaust 0.16 - 0.20mm (or .006-.008 inch)
As you can see its tighter than most, but you will find out that .003"Int & .006"Ex is very quiet.
