Default thrust washers.... how to install?

its a b18c1

i have a manual, but it says to just put them in the number 4 journal. but how exactly do they stay there? what holds them in?

If you are trying to get them to stay put while you set the crank in, try a little assembly lube behind them and that should hold them enough to get the crank installed.

thats what I tried and it kept binding up. If that doesn't work.. what I did was put the crank in, slid one in, then for the second one, i lightly tapped the end of the crank with a rubber mallot, and the other one slid into place. My friend lightly tapped the end and as he was doing that, i was sliding the thrust washer in.

It bears the loads as the crank moves back and forth in the main bearings.

i know you said you have the manual, but make sure you put them in with the grooves facing out.
