thrust bearings going out?
hey guys im not sure if its the throw out bearing going out, or the thrust bearings going out. When the car is on at idle it makes noise, like knock knock knock knock pretty fast, but relitivly quiet. When teh A/C is on, the sound it alot louder. The sound goes away when the clutch is depressed. If this makes any difference when i press the clutch in the RPM's stay the same. When im driving and press the clutch in the rpm's drop just a little below normal idle then return to normal idle (pretty normal).. the car does NOT stall out or anything... HMMMmmmmm
1995 gsr, origional motor. 150,xxx miles. ACT clutch, street disk i believe. car is stock. I/H/C/E only mods... These were done before i got the car, i have no idea if it was boosted, nitros'd before....
Hopefully the good folks here on HT can help me out.

Usually if it makes a noise, and goes away when you push in the clutch then its the throwout bearing,
But if you bring it to a transmission shop like ammco or cottman or whatever you have near you, theyll look at it for free

Just trying to help you narrow down the problem.

He is right, the throw out bearing is only in use when the clutch is dissengaged. Meaning it should make noise with the clutch pedal in, not all the time. May have a bad bearing in the transmission, ill have to check my book at work for the bearing noise fault trace.

Probably not your case, but sometimes when I start my car my exhaust starts rattling slightly on a heat shield, sounds like small fast knocks, and it goes away when the clutch is in or if I put my shoe against the exhaust tip.

Looked in my book but couldnt find the chart im thinking of that defines noises, when they occur, and common faults. Ill try and look again. My lunches are short lol.
