Default Throwing code #5 (map Sensor) How to test to make sure it's the map sensor?

My engine light went on and I took my car to a friends shop. Found out it was 5 (map sensor). Before I go to replace it my cousin (Honda Dealership Mechanic) said I should test the Map Sensor first before replacing because it could be harness or plug. So what I'm asking is have any of you had this prob and did you test anything prior to just getting a map sensor. Thanks. By the way it's cost like $250 for a new map sensor. I can get it at the junk yard to for like $40 but who is to say it's working.
