Default Think im getting closer to my code throwing problem....Expert tech help needed.

Alright, first things first.....Im throwing a code 20 on my JDM h22. Code 20 is the Electronic Load Detector (ELD)...After some careful searching under my hood i come to find that the IAB connector is not even plugged up. So i grab my trusty HELMS manual and look through it and come to find out that connector is supposed to be connected to whats called the IAB control solenoid valve..So i look under the hood....this valve is nowhere to be found..Heres my question....would this have something to do with the code 20 im throwing???????????????????

Yup. If the ECU is looking for something not there then you will have to connect that (or trick it) to see if that is what is causing the thrown code.

The IAB doesn't throw a code if they aren't hooked up. The ELD is something different. Look in your helms manual and it'll have all the troubleshooting steps for that error code

The ELD is integrated into the underhood fuse box. Typically it is not bad but something else is. My friend had this proble intermittently and we never did figure it out.

This may help you too. An older article [97], but still applicable.

By god i think i may have found the problem....The power steering pressure switch.....But where is this switch located?????? It may be overloaded due to the fact that i have 4WS...What do you all think?????

hmmm... ELD's are tricky little suckers and usually don't go bad.. ELD stands for "electronic load detection" unit and is incorporated to work with the alternator ouput, can be found built into the under hood fuse block.. you may want to unbolt the fuse block and check the ELD connector to make sure its plugged in and has no extra tension on it creating resistance..

Do you have a high end stereo system in the car? or possibly use some electrical component that puts excessive strain on the battery?.. Check connections at the alternator as well..

First, what kind of ECU are you using?

If you are using a USDM ECU that MAY be causing your problem. USDM cars/alternators have an ELD. Most JDM cars/alternators do not have an ELD. You guys ever notice that the newer JDM B-series alternators only have 3 wires as opposed to 4?

Another thing that happens quite often is people ground out the 12V switched wire going to the O2 sensor. This causes a short which pops a fuse in the under dash fuse box and causes a code 20, among other things.

I don't know all the details on your setup or your install so these are just guesses based on past experience. It is hard to diagnose problems via the internet.

Give me more details. Maybe I can solve this for you. If you don't get a quick response email me. There are times where I don't have time to check the boards as often as I would like.

Ok no problem..heres my setup...
88 Prelude Si 4WS
JDM H22A (obd1 p13)
Place Racing harness, axles,mounts,etc
No stereo, (well 2 infinity 5 1/4 door speakers)

Another thing i read in my helms manual in the fuel and emissions section last night was...
Sympton "Idle speed drops when steering wheel is turning."<----this is whats happening! Then the manual goes on and says... "Check Power steering pressure switch signal."

Where is this switch?? The manual doesnt show me that well. Could the pump be overloaded due to the fact that i have 4WS and the pump is for 2WS and therefore throwing a load code???

Thanks everybody for all the help
