Default thermostat modification for cooling..

I am wondering.. If I remove the center of my thermostat and just leave the outside of the housing there would the coolant still flow slow enough for the radiator to remove heat from the coolant??

This is on a drag car that doesnt have a heater core or anything like that, I just want to keep the temps down and make it eaiser to turn the water pump and free up some lost power..

I wouldn't gut the thermostat

but you can drill some holes in it

Yup drilling holes works well cuz it doen't interfere with thermo operation, just kind of a supplemental flow...it can still regulate temp/pressure somewhat.

I know Endyn on one of their motors removed the center of the thermostat just leaving the outer ring of it there and moded the water pump to flow slower and it worked great.. I probably will just drill holes in it to make it work then..

How many holes and what size do I need to drill?
