testing starter?should it spin or just pop out

i just took my starter out to test it to see if thats the reason my car wont even try to crank over. i put the ground and hook up the solenoid to the battery and the motor from it just pops out, does that mean its still go or is it suppose to spin also>?

Its supposed to do both at the same time. Make sure you have the starter properly grounded.

oh i see mines just pops but wait i only have it grounded at one point around the top area, is there another ground supposed to be hooked up? thankz in advance
