Default Taking tranny apart

so i got a ls tranny with 40000miles for my ls when i put it in. it grinds going into second..yea i know probably the syncros. but if i put the stock ls shifter in do you think it would help, right now there is some p.o.s. short shifter in there that i didnt feel like taking out at the time of swap. could this be part of the problem? what about new shifter bushings..

if shifter not the problem, has anyone taken an ls hydro tranny apart? will i get myself into a big mess trying to change second gear syncro myself? i have built motors, did swap myself, and am good with tools and ****..

let me knwo what you guys think on the situation

thanks,

richard

shifter might help a tad.

ifyou have assembled a motor, you have a helm, and you take your time, you
should be able to change the synchro yourself.

1-2 synchro isnt one of the easiest to change but if its grinding now that means that it will grind down the road at some point. youve already worn down the synchros so in my opinion if you have the time and money replace it. you can try using some honda MTF in it and put the stock fhifter back in. that might get rid of the grind but for peice of mind. (keep in mind that you can prolly find anoher LS tranny for 400 bux or so)

im not sure the exact price but expect about 200-300 or so for the synchro from acuraautomotiveparts.net

im not familiar with LS tranies but on a type R its picture # 7 on the countershaft

after looking at the diagram for the LS tranny it looks like the 1-2 synchro only comes with the gear too... its 247 for the gear and synchros. you should feel lucky as for my R tranny its 300 for just the synchros....

oh yeah do you have access to a press or a really big vise?

hondas not gona have the ls tranny, only the b16 tranny which is gonna be a little different

go to the acura one... i have ordered the 3-4 synchro, some bearings, and various other parts for my r tranny from them before and have been satisfied
