tachometer installed but doesnt turn on

tachometer installed but doesnt turn on
so today i wired everything to what was sed..
red - to radio wire.. 12v
white- illumination
green - RPM input
black - to whatever is metal..
tell me if tahts correct?
i couldnt get it to light up or to work .. please help me someone .. 4 wires were cut off since my car is a 4 cylinder
