Default Tach wiring issues

OK the civic forum is useless so ill post here.

Car is a 92 dx. I have found the blue tach wire. That was easy. Now here are my questions:

On the wiring diagram, both B12(red/blk wire) and B11(red wire) go to the guage lights. B12 however, is shown to go the guage light dimmer. Im guessing either will work, but i want to be sure.

I got the power and ground all set but when i turn on the car, the tach jumps around. Jumps around 4k a couple times, then jumps to 10k. keeps doing this sequence over and over.

Im guessing its a bad rpm reading, but i have the wire connected to the blue wire (B8) that is for the tach. Any ideas?
