Default Tach needle popped off.

Hey everyone. First time poster and new to Honda-Tech, so forgive me beforehand if I break any forum etiquette/rules with this post.

Here is my dilemma. I recently performed a ‘05 cluster swap on my 2002 Civic. I clumsily dropped the cluster and the tach needle popped off. I removed the plastic screen and reattached it. After successfully requiring and installing the cluster I started the car and noticed everything was working fine. Except the tach, which went from resting at zero to jumping up to and hovering at around 4000rpms. The tach still rises up through the rpms while driving, but it acts as if the starting point is 4000rpm. I’m wondering if when remounting the needle after it fell off did I position it wrong?

My question is if I popped the screen off again and reposition the needle would that make any difference. Would it correct the issue.

I appreciate any help and thanks for your time.

Yes it should fix it. It's tricky to do, but if you know your car idles at 800rpm warm, just let it warm up, then as it's idling, CAREFULLY press the tach needle back on at the 800rpm mark.
