Tach Install 2001 Civic DX
Anyone install an Autometer Comp series tach on a 2001 civic dx? Autometer can not tell me the correct location of the terminal off the fuse box to hook into.
Some help please, I will be installing a new intake manifold and full exhaust system in my car and really want to see the difference!!

Now how is installing a tach going to help you see the difference from adding an intake and exhaust. I also want to know what spot on the fuse panel that you don't know what to hook up to. What are using the fuse box for. If all you need from it is power. and you can't find THAT, I would let somebody else install that tach for you.
I guess you mean the power wire right. Well what I did is I spliced that in to my ignition wire from the key. Get yourself a test light. Turn the car from off to accessory to on. Check each wire in each position to see which one stays with power only when the key is in the on position. Then, finally, splice into that wire. I did this for all my gauges.
Hope this helps.

From the schematic that Autometer sent for the 01 Civic, there is a diag terminal off the fuse block for the ecm for an external tach. They claim that you can tap the green wire from the ProComp Tach at this point and get a reading. Problem is, the schematic is for a base Civic, and most of it does not apply to this car. My guess is they are using one from an earlier model year. They claim it is new, they got the diagram a few weeks ago.
As for tapping in to the Block for the illumination and primary power for the Tach itself, Any putz with a test light and a brain can take a sec to determin which set to connect to.
Lastly, having an accurate tach in a car that does not have one stock will show me what RPM I am shifting at and help me determine a safe Redline for the car with these mods.
I am looking for someone who can help with something the Manufacturer seems unable to be of assistance with. If all you want is to be derrogatory, take it to someone elses post that is wondering if their car would look better white rather than black.
Thanks bandit_sir, but the fuse block offers plenty of open terminals, and some are acc power ready. Maybe on an older car without these, it makes sence to tap near the key.

I drive a 01 GSR i'm not sure if everything is the same wirin and all but here goes. Its very simple only took me 10 minutes.
Red Wire - Any 12v power source
Black Wire - I just ran it to a bolt on the frame under the dash
Green Wire - RPM Module under the hood
White Wire - I hook it to my cruise control since it was closer to my tach makin it easier for me to hide my wires. Or you can hook it to your dimmer switch.
Good luck man before i do all of this I would DISCONNECT the battery in case of shorting.

K, for those who give a rats...
This is the info that Autometer received today on this install (I know, I called up and told them!!)
Behind the instrument cluster on the Civic DX w/o factory tach, there is a blue w/silver striped lead. I am guessing this is done at the assembly line to all Civic Dx models whether or not they will get the factory tach. You can take the "read" or green wire from the tach and connect it directly to this lead. Walla!! Instant reading. I have the light set at 6700 for a shift point until I find out what the factory redline is. I am hoping to get the new Manifold, Cold Air and Exhaust work finished by the end of next month. I can not wait to see what a diff it will make.
Thanks to those who attempted to help with this question.
